Coalition of Black Churches/African American Leadership Summit

The COBC/AALS has been in existence since 1990, when it was referred to as Operation Resurrection. In 1993, it absorbed the African American Leadership Summit as a way of expanding its reach into the African American community.

The COBC adopted a thirteen point agenda: including economic development, the elimination of racial profiling, resolving the disparities in out-of-home placement of African American children, racism in the political arena and government, and other issues of freedom, justice and equality.

Consistent with the thirteen point agenda, the COBC/AALS, after several meetings with University of Minnesota officials and after extensive internal dialogue, endorsed the North side initiative. The COBC/AALS believes that this project offers significant potential for real economic development on the Plymouth/Penn corridor, that the University of Minnesota's Child and Family Center can offer real hope in reducing out-of-home placement for children of color, and that the proposed business incubator will provide opportunities for employment and business development. The COBC also believes that the partnership offered in this endeavor provides the structure for meaningful community oversight and engagement that will enhance both the near North community and the University of Minnesota over the long term.
